The Nutcracker with Mimi
Hi everyone, Mimi here to share a fun interactive Display-a-Card featuring The Nutcracker set. This set is so so adorable!! The ballerina is just the cutest! I wanted to make her spin so I incorporated a spinner element to the card. Let’s get started on how I put this together.
First, I wanted to create a stage scene. I die cut 2 Display-a-Card CC frames from white 80lbs card stock. I die cut 2 inserts from brown pattern paper to place on the bottom and 1 from white cardstock to place on top.

I used the Flourish Frame CC to frame the opening of the display-a-card. I die cut the frame from tan cardstock, and glued that on top of the Display-a-Card frame. I set that aside.

To make it more of a stage scene, I wanted some curtains. The Hooray Streamers CC were perfect for my top drape curtains. I die cut 2 large streamers and 1 small streamer from red pattern paper. I glued them on top of each other. Next, for my side curtains, I die cut the Hillside Cover with the same red pattern paper as my top drape curtains. I only used 2 sections of the hillside border. I trimmed it to size. I centered and glued the top curtains behind the Flourish frame. I, then, glued the side curtains.
For my background panel, I used a piece of double sided pattern paper. I used the pink striped pattern side for the front (the other side is pink with white polk-a-dots which you will see later on the back of the card). For the windows, I used the Bella Frame CC window die. I die cut the windows from brown cardstock and placed some Bokeh pattern paper behind the frames. I made 2 half windows and 1 whole window to fit onto the background panel. I adhered this background panel to the inside of my other display-a-card frame.
At this point, I also glued in my inserts. The 2 bottom brown inserts were glued at 1/4“ from the front frame panel and 1/4” from the back panel, leaving about 5/8” in between. The top white one was glued at 1/4” from the front frame panel.
I stamped and colored all my images with Copic markers. I stamped 3 ballerinas, 2 blue and 1 pink, because I wanted a few of them on stage. For the pink ballerina, I did a mirror image stamping technique so when she spins, she looks the same throughout. I applied some Stickles Diamond glitter to their tutus, wings and flower petals.

I created the spinner mechanism by placing a piece of clear thread straight down the middle back of the pink ballerina and then gluing together the mirror image. I, then, glued and taped the ends of the clear thread to the backs of the front top and bottom inserts.
I finished the front of the card by adding 2 nutcrackers standing at each ends of the stage. I also decorated the back of the card with the king mouse and little girl. The Christmas tree is from Decorate the Tree set. Lastly, I placed banner sentiments from Winter Banner Greetings that I die cut from glitter cardstock.
