Twinkle Twinkle with Jenn
Hello crafty friends! Today I have a special project to share with you that uses the new Twinkle Twinkle stamps and Little Elephant Agenda stamps from Mama Elephant. When I saw the cute elephants in Twinkle Twinkle, I immediately thought of baby cards... which led me to dreaming up this elephant themed baby mobile!
This project required a lot of trial and error because I never made a mobile before but had this grandiose idea to make one and was determined to make it, haha! So I will do my best to explain each part! (And I also wanted to say that it was really really difficult to take pictures of this non-stationary 3D project so please be sure to look out for a video reel of this project that will be up on Instagram!)
Clouds and stars: I cut out the clouds and stars from white and yellow felt using Cloud Nine and Star Grid Window. For each star and cloud, I sewed two of them together using a blanket stitch. To create puffy clouds, I stuffed them with some poly-fil stuffing.
Planets: I had saved leftover alcohol ink panels and inner circle scraps when I created this card so I thought they would make perfect planets. The tricky one was the green planet with rings and took some trial and error to figure out. I used Plain Circle Frames to cut out two rings from silver foil cardstock. I marked the center line of the rings, glued fishing line across, and glued the second ring on top to sandwich the string. Then I marked the diameter of the green planet and added double sided adhesive to adhere the fishing line horizontally across the planet. Then I added another line of double sided adhesive on the vertical diameter to secure the thread to hang up the planet.
Images: I used images from Twinkle Twinkle, Little Elephant Agenda, and Little Agenda Spaceship. After coloring and die cutting them, I added another die cut to cover up the ink that bled through the back. I secured the images to the thread with double sided adhesive and then added another die cut layer. I probably didn't need so many layers of die cuts but I like how it added weight to the images so they dangle nicely from the mobile.
Assembly: I used a 6 inch embroidery hoop and started with the inner ring. I tied 3 strands of fishing line and threaded them through a pom pom (I used a pom pom maker and white yarn). For each dangling strand, I used clear thread and sewed the felt pieces on. For the paper pieces, I sandwiched the thread between layers of the image. Once I positioned everything where I wanted, I tied the strings around the hoop and added the outer hoop and tightened it. Finally, I braided the 3 strands of fishing line at the top of the pom pom to create a rope to hang the mobile.
I hope this inspires you to use your Mama Elephant products in new ways! Thanks for stopping by! Happy crafting! ~Jenn
Supplies used:
6 inch embroidery hoop
Clear sewing thread
Fishing line (I used 12lb line because it was all I had but thought it was a little too thick for my preference)
Poly-fil stuffing
