Birthday Block Set with Mimi
Hi everyone, Mimi here on the Mama Elephant’s blog with my first post of the New Year! I hope everyone is off to a great start! Today is the start of the Lunar Year and to celebrate, I created a fun and festive Happy Lunar New Year card featuring the Birthday Block Set and other sets from the January release.
I started with the Birthday Block Set. I love that all the Mama Elephants friends are gathered together and I thought this would make a great New Year’s card. I first stamped the Luck character, from the Lucky Cat set, with my MISTI. I then masked that image and stamped the birthday gang. Once I removed the masking tape, it looks like the Luck character is my cake topper.
Next, I drew in some lines to create Chinese outfits on each friend, colored with Copic markers and die cut the image. I also added matching Chinese hats, from the Lunar Animals set.
I wanted a year on the card so I used the Counting Left and Counting Right numbers. I also drew in some outfits and added matching hats to some of those Mama Elephant friends. I painted the numbers with Distress Mica Stain in Flickering Candle.
I spritzed some Distress Mica Stain Wonderland, Sugary Gumdrop and Flickering Candle on a white 5.5” x 4.25” panel. I added a die cut of the Sakura Lanterns frame on top. I ink blended the blossoms with Distress Oxide inks in Kitsch Flamingo, Cracked Pistachio and Vintage Photo.
I added the birthday gang and the Count Left and Right numbers to the card. I stamped the sentiments from Lunar Extras. I also stamped a couple of small LUCK characters on the balloons and added some ingots, oranges, red envelopes and blossoms from the same set.
I added some highlights with a white gel pen to complete the card. On my red envelope, I added the Fortune character, from the Fortune Envelope Creative Cuts, that I spritzed with Distress Mica Stain in Flickering Candles.
